Swine fever kills 4 000 pigs in Mozambique
MOZAMBIQUE - An African swine fever epidemic has killed more than 4 000 pigs in central Mozambican provinces of Sofala and Manica.More than 3 000 animals have been reported killed in Sofala alone, while Manica, where the fever erupted in February has reported more than 1 000 deaths.
Health authorities reported 990 deaths in Barue district of Manica alone, while peasant farmers in Sussundenga have also reported losing animals.
Manica provincial governor Raimundo Diomba told President Armando Guebuza, during his visit that health authorities were enforcing the culling of sick animals and banned the movement of pigs from one area to another.
