According to a press release from the Danish Pig Research Center, the organisation is working to reduce PRRS prevalence in the country's pig herds.

Reduction in PRRS for pigs in Denmark will mean higher health in pig herds and will also have a major impact on the large production fluctuations that may occur during an outbreak of PRRS. Therefore, Landbrug & Fødevare Gris, in close collaboration with other agencies, has drawn up a strategy to reduce the proportion of herds with PRRS. The goal is for the proportion of herds declared PRRS-antibody negative to increase by mid-2025.

The plan includes three main elements. Suspicion of clinical occurrence of PRRS must continue to be dealt with by reporting to a practicing veterinarian. All herds must have a PRRS antibody declaration (known status) by the end of 2022. In herds that have a PRRS antibody test of unknown or positive status, the veterinarian and producer must, from 1 July 2022, prepare a declaration every month stating that there is no clinical presence of PRRS in the herd.
